happy new year

I cant believe this year is almost over! I love the feeling of a new year. New goals & hopes & motivation. Today is literally the first day of the rest of your life! What are you going to do with it?
We had a super awesome couple of weeks (besides a car wreck and being sick). Christmas as a missionary was a blessing. On christmas eve we were leaving a members house, so we were up a dark holler, and we looked up and the stars were the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Sister glenn and I layed in the road and looked for the star that would've appeared on christ's birthday. It was just one of those moments where everything else in the world disappears besides you and your thoughts and the gratitude and amazement you have for God's creations.
Samantha is having some super hard marital issues and is going through a really rough time so we have to push her baptismal date back. It is so sad how often addictions ruin relationships and families. I am so grateful to have parents that love each other and get along!
We invited Raymond to stop smoking and he said he wouldn't and couldn't. We had been talking about judgement day and reading alma 5 together and sister glenn said "What are you gonna tell God when he asks you why you wouldn't stop smoking?" He said, "I'll just tell him he has to accept me for who I am and that I couldn't stop cause I enjoy it" hahahahah we were like uhhh sorry it doesn't work that way. He knows he needs to stop, he is just stubborn and doesn't realize how happy he could be if he did. We told him to think about it for 3 days and then we would get a final answer. We told him that if he wasn't willing to quit and if he wasn't going to progress then we have to move on and help people who DO want to. He understood and told us he would think on it. I hope he will decide to change.

I was reading in alma 22 and I LOVE how willing and humble king lamoni was, just to know the Lord. He said he would give up his entire kingdom and all of his possessions if he could just receive the great joy that the gospel brings. He said "I will give away all my sins to know thee". He was so repentant and surely had a broken heart. He knew that the love of god and the gospel could bring him more joy than any worldly thing. I found a quote that says "Someone has said that the price of a Christian life is the same today as always. It is simply to give all that we have, holding back nothing, to give away all our sins to know him". I feel like I have really experienced that on my mission! I am trying my best to live the gospel and I feel like I know God better than ever and have a personal relationship with him. What are you willing to give the Lord just to know him better?? Make a goal to strengthen your relationship with him this year! <3

Have a great week and a happy new year🄳
All my love, sister brinton

This toilet paper roll was my bff this week (I used the entire thing).

Sister Glenn forgot her name tag at church so she wore an extra one of mine and nobody even noticed hahahah.
